Barcelona is one of the most successful football clubs and has been involved in some of the most outrageous transfer fees paid to players.

Although the investment made by the club has been effective, there have been some woeful transfers that have made fans wonder why such huge sums are spent.

Barcelona, a global brand, has continued to be active in the transfer market despite stuttering finance. The club’s model works with a mixed blend of top players alongside players from its academy.

So who are the most expensive Barcelona transfer fees paid lately? From the count of £100m, Ousmane Dembélé, £121.50m and Antoine Griezmann £108.00m top the list.

 Barcelona most expensive signings

10 – Ferran Torres – (£49.50m, from Manchester City in 2022)

Ferran Torres was tipped to be a big hit at Manchester City following his arrival at the club in 2020 after an explosive start to his professional career at Valencia.

He did show up the stuff he was made of, including the outstanding performance that saw him become the youngest Spanish player ever to score in three consecutive appearances at 20.

But Ferran decided to return to Spanish football as Xavi Hernandez outlined his desire to work with him at Barcelona. So far, Ferran Torres has been brilliant and has proven to be a reliable player for Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona.

“I could have stayed at Manchester City, winning many titles, but I wanted a new challenge. Signing for Barcelona is an honour in itself, but when Xavi calls you, it’s a no brainer.” Ferran Torres on his move to Barcelona.

9. Raphinha – (£52.20m, from Leeds United in 2022)

Raphinha left Leeds United for Barcelona after leaving his mark as one of the most outstanding players as the club struggled to stay in the top flight. Barcelona completed the signing ahead of the 2022/23 football season.

The Brazilian is a quality winger who’s been very effective in his role. He is expected to be a core part of the big project at FC Barcelona.

8. Miralem Pjanic – (£54.00m, from Juventus in 2020)

Miralem Pjanic is one of the shock transfers at FC Barcelona in recent years. The Bosnian was brought to help the club’s depleted midfield.

He slightly changed the team. However, Pjanic failed to live up to the level fans had expected of him.

His struggles in the team led to an eventual loan move away from the club. His future at the Camp Nou is uncertain as he’s found it difficult to get game time as Xavi Hernandez appears to have different options for himself.

7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – (£62.55m, from Inter Milan in 2009)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the standout signings at Barcelona, even though his career at the club was brief. The Swede joined the Catalan club for a record fee of £62.55m.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has gone ahead to play for some of the biggest football clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, LA Galaxy and AC Milan.

6. Luis Suárez – (£73.55m, from Liverpool in 2014)

Suarez joined Barcelona in 2014 after a blistering career at Liverpool, where he capped 31 Goals in the 2013–14 season to win the Premier League Golden boot.

Suarez also had a successful career at Barcelona and was part of the famous MSN trio of Neymar and Lionel Messi.

The Uruguayan moved to Atletico Madrid, winning the La Liga title with the club before heading for South America.

Suarez remains one of the most significant signings at Barcelona in the last decade.

5. Frenkie de Jong – (£77.40m, from Ajax Amsterdam in 2019)

Part of Ajax Amsterdam’s incredible 2018-19 Champions League setup, Frankie de Jong took the turn to Barcelona amid mass departure by most squad members to other top European clubs, including Man United and Juventus.

Arriving at Barcelona with so much potential, Frankie de Jong is yet to play to his best at Ajax, predominantly due to issues surrounding his contract. Despite these factors, the Dutchman has continuously attracted offers around Europe due to his immense talent.

Frenkie de Jong, on a good day, could be ranked among the best midfielders. He is a versatile midfielder with strong dribbling abilities and attacking prowess.

4. Neymar -(£79.20m, from Santos FC in 2013)

Neymar is one of the top names on Barcelona’s record transfer list. The Brazilian was drawn to the Catalan club after an explosive career at Santos.

He is also famously known for his role at Barcelona and as part of the MSN trio of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi that won several trophies, including a treble.

Neymar was later sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a world transfer record fee of £199.80m (€222m).

3. Antoine Griezmann – (£108.00m, from Atletico Madrid)

Antoine Griezmann rose to become one of the best players in the Spanish La Liga in 2014 and 2019, winning several trophies with the club. His performance had compelled Barcelona to splash £108.00m for his services.

However, he’s failed to play to the same level at Atletico Madrid despite high expectations from football fans.

2. Philippe Coutinho – (£121.50m, from Liverpool)

Philippe Coutinho had an outstanding career at Liverpool. He moved to Barcelona for £121.50m with high expectations.

However, he failed to hit the ground running and had to be loaned to other top clubs until settling well at Aston Villa.

1. Ousmane Dembélé – (£126.00m, from Borussia Dortmund in 2017)

Ousmane Dembélé joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in his peak times at the German club.

But the Frenchman is yet to live up to expectations since his arrival at Barcelona, predominantly due to injuries that left him out of action.

Dembélé remains part of the project at Barcelona, and Xavi Hernandez had not talked about plans without the Frenchman.
